New Editorial Director: David Mills
On many occasions, I have been proud to be the founding editor of Ethika Politika. Publishing a fantastic article or helping to bring important voices to our board are gratifying for me. Yet in almost all cases such satisfaction is short-lived, and the work of making Ethika Politika’s high points the norm—of raising the water level of the publication—resumes with more urgency than expected.
Therefore, it is both very happy and solemn news that David Mills recently joined us as Editorial Director for “The Whole Story” and Ethika Politika.
Regular readers will recall last June when Mr. Mills kindly agreed to serve on our editorial board. Since then, for almost a whole year, his practical experience with publishing and widely regarded expertise in the “lapidary craft” have become major influences to Ethika Politika behind the scenes.
When the opportunity arose to fill an inaugural position with our program, “The Whole Story,” Mr. Mills was the first and clearest candidate. The Editorial Director is, after all, chiefly responsible for instruction and for the professional formation of our program staff and writers, as well as for making direct written and editorial contributions from time to time. By his own account—and certainly by the testimony of a good many others—Mr. Mills is foremost a teacher, whose vocation is not simply to do things excellently, but also gently and with total devotion and reverence.
After just a year, I am only beginning to learn some of the lessons that Mr. Mills routinely imparts, whether through private inquiry or by his many public writings around the web. I trust that in short order these same, and many other, lessons will benefit the contributors, staff, and most importantly the readers of “The Whole Story” and Ethika Politika at large.
Once again, I am eager to extend a hearty welcome to David Mills, whose presence will, among other things, help to shift the tide at Ethika Politika in a decisive and very exciting way.
